Nearly five years ago, mockup images of an aerial gondola, hovering over Chinatown like an urban ski lift and making a beeline to Dodger Stadium, piqued the curiosity of Angelenos.Since then, the Los Angeles Aerial Rapid Transit (L.A. ART) plans have slowly made their way to city and county officials, raising several questions about its environmental impact, and even more questions over the involvement of a former Dodger team owner who left Los Angeles in 2012 after a messy divorce and forced the sale of the team. While the concept of an aerial gondola is not yet a common one, there have been successful examples in the skies of Medellin, Colombia; Mexico City, Mexico and in New York, but none of those previous sky rides have had the ambition of carrying 5,000 people per hour, on seven-minute rides, the way L.A.’s Dodger Stadium gondola would.“It’s a proven mode of transit that works incredibly well,” former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said while serving on L.A. A new report confirms that Prince Harry was on tap to host “Saturday Night Live” in January, amid his promotional blitz for his memoir “Spare,” but the report says he backed out at “the last minute” due to concerns that it could make him appear too much like a “celebrity” and less like the respected public figure he wants to be.The Duke of Sussex was all set to host “Saturday Night Live” — until he wasn’t, according to a report by The Ankler. Lorne Michaels and other producers had been negotiating with Harry’s camp for weeks to host, presumably timing his appearance to the January publication of “Spare,” his massively best-selling tell-about about the dark side of royal life. The “SNL” hosting gig by Harry, who’s expected to appear Saturday at King Charles III’s coronation, would have coincided with other high-profile TV appearances on both sides of the Atlantic, includi...Four-bedroom home in Fremont sells for $2.7 million

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina lawmakers on Thursday approved a ban on nearly all abortions after 12 weeks of pregnancy, down from the current 20 weeks, in response to last year’s overturning of Roe v. Wade at the U.S. Supreme Court. The ban is one of the least onerous of a slew of bills Republican-led assemblies have pushed through in recent months since the high court stripped away women’s constitutional protections for abortion. Other states have banned the procedure nearly completely or throughout pregnancy.Nonetheless, the 29-20 vote by the Senate was met with loud cries of “Abortion rights now!” from about 100 observers who had crowded into the gallery to watch the debate. Police quickly cleared the area, but protesters could still be heard yelling “Shame!” from outside the closed doors. While perhaps less restrictive, North Carolina’s bill has far-reaching consequences. Before its passage, many women from nearby states with restrictive laws had traveled to the state...Latest news
