Jaguars pass rusher Josh Allen earns a raise in opener but will have to wait to cash in JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Jaguars pass rusher Josh Allen essentially earned a pay raise Sunday. He might have to wait until March to cash in, though. The seventh overall pick in the 2019 draft had three sacks in Jacksonville’s season opener at Indianapolis — two of them because he chased Colts rookie Anthony Richardson out of bounds — and gave himself early leverage in future contract negotiations.Allen is in the final year of his rookie deal, playing on a fifth-year option that guarantees him $10.9 million in 2023. He took a huge step toward persuading the Jaguars to keep him, and if not, surely increased his value in free agency.“It was definitely a great start of what I want to achieve, but there’s also room to grow for next week,” Allen said following the 31-21 victory.Aside from the addition of receiver Calvin Ridley, pass rush was the hottest topic in Jacksonville throughout the offseason and during training camp. The Jaguars finished tied for 25th in the NFL with 35 sacks in 20...

He risks 4-year ban ROME (AP) — Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba tested positive for testosterone, Italy’s anti-doping agency announced Monday. The test was carried out after Juventus’ game at Udinese on Aug. 20. Pogba did not play in the Serie A match but was on Juve’s bench.Nado Italia, the anti-doping agency, said that Pogba was suspended provisionally with immediate effect. Pending a trial and testing of a backup “B” sample, he risks a suspension of up to four years. It’s another negative note for a player who has been bothered by injuries ever since rejoining Juventus from Manchester United a little more than a year ago. He was ruled out of France’s run to the World Cup final last year due to a knee injury. There’s also been a police investigation ongoing in France into allegations that Pogba was targeted by extortionists — including by his older brother, Mathias, who has denied any wrongdoing. It’s also another blow to Juventus following a season marred by inquiries into f...

Panthers experience early growing pains with No. 1 pick Bryce Young in 24-10 loss to the Falcons CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Panthers knew there’d be some growing pains with rookie quarterback Bryce Young. They didn’t have to wait long to feel them.Young was 20 of 38 for 146 yards passing and one touchdown in his NFL debut, but also threw two interceptions leading to two Falcons touchdowns in a 24-10 road loss to Atlanta on Sunday.Despite those costly turnovers, Panthers coach Frank Reich said Monday he felt Young “played well” overall after analyzing the game film. Reich took blame for Young’s first interception, saying he put the No. 1 overall pick in “a bad position” by failing to get the play call in on time — resulting in a delay of game penalty — just before the turnover.Reich also indicated there was a mix-up on Young’s second interception. It’s pretty clear the Panthers, who finished 29th in the league in passing last season, have a long way to go in that area. They had no “chunk plays” down the field with Young’s longest reception going fo...
