AUSTIN (KXAN) — Tooth decay is the most common chronic childhood disease in the U.S. − more common than childhood obesity, asthma and diabetes -- according to researchers from the National Health Institute.The NIH report, called Oral Health in America: Advances and Challenges, found nearly 57% of children from 12 to 19 years old in the U.S. have had dental cavities in their permanent teeth. Older teens, Mexican-American children and those living in families with lower incomes were more likely to have decay.“There's a lot of evidence that shows cavities in baby teeth certainly affect what happens in your adult teeth,” American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry President Dr. Amr M. Moursi said. “It affects how well you eat, how well you sleep how well you do in school. (NewsNation) — President Joe Biden is expected to sign an executive order Tuesday while in Monterey Park, California, that senior administration officials say aims to increase the number of background checks before gun purchases.The Biden administration says with the executive order, the president is directing the attorney general to push the U.S. as close to universal background checks as possible without additional legislation by clarifying the statutory definition of who is “engaged in the business” of dealing guns.The executive order also moves to improve public awareness and encourage the effective use of “red flag” laws. QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (NEWS10) - The Aviation Mall at large was closed on Tuesday, as the Queensbury area got hit by an expected 8-to-16 inches of snowfall. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Albany County Legislature is considering extending the hours of operation for wine and liquor stores during the holiday season in Albany County. According to legislation introduced on March 13, Albany County is requesting that wine and liquor stores are open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. starting November 15 to January 7 each year. Majority Leader Dennis Feeney, sponsor of the legislation comments, “This proposal will benefit both the public and local businesses, as it allows for businesses to stay open additional hours during one of their busiest seasons."
