AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — Aurora Fire Rescue crew members are completing de-escalation training to help crew members respond to people experiencing a crisis. Despite paramedics regularly responding to these types of calls, de-escalation training is pretty rare within fire departments."I've been doing this for 34 years and it's nothing we've ever formally done, and it seems like the right time and place to bring this to life," said Aurora Fire Rescue's training chief, Commander Mark Hays. FOX31 Newsletters: Sign up to get breaking news sent to your inbox The training comprises three phases that teach self-awareness, body positioning and voice modulation to help soothe individuals experiencing anxiety, stress or psychological trauma. On Monday, paramedics walked through scenarios played out by actors, such as a veteran with PTSD or a woman experiencing a mental health crisis."It's long overdue as a general population. This isn't a call we practice for very often, but it is a common cal...Arrest made after woman allegedly causes $10,000 damage to Miami church

The incident happened Sunday evening at the Martin Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Center located at 14741 Lincoln Blvd.According to the arrest report, upon arriving at the scene, Miami Police officers spotted a woman matching a description they were given walking away from the church and detained her as part of their investigation. One witness, according to police, told officers that he saw the woman picking up bricks and hurling them at various windows of the church, resulting in approximately $10,000 in damages. Two women apparently got into a fight out front.“Two young ladies who were having an altercation and decided to take out all of their anger on the church,” said Rev. Dr. Anthony Reed.Cellphone video showed the mess that the vandals left behind and daylight revealed the damage to the church. “They damaged the windows, they took ...“The Dry Season, really?”

The south Florida Dry Season started in the middle of October (basically 1-month ago). Since that time, as you might expect, rain has been hard to come by. That’s about to change. If you stashed your umbrella in the closet, it’s necessary to grab it (once again) before heading out the door. A wetter pattern is starting to take shape. We’re watching a non-tropical low pressure system in the Gulf of Mexico that’s pushing deep moisture in our direction. That will result in “rounds of rain” starting Tuesday and lasting through Thursday, at least. In addition to the rain will be a surge in winds. A gusty onshore flow will keep us unsettled and cause marine hazards. It simply won’t be a good time to head to the beach or do any boating, whatsoever. Along with rip currents and rough seas, there’s even the return of King Tides. That means saltwater flooding could be an issue during the high tide cycle, so we’ll need to monitor th...Patriots release DB Jack Jones, ending tumultuous tenure with team

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — The New England Patriots released defensive back Jack Jones on Monday after a tumultuous season that began with his arrest for bringing guns into the airport and ended with him unable to earn playing time for the last-place team.Jones, 25, was a fourth-round draft pick in 2022 who played in 13 games last year and four this season, missing the first six with a hamstring injury. The Patriots are 2-8 — last in the AFC East and tied for last in the conference.Jones agreed to serve one year of probation and 48 hours of community service in exchange for prosecutors dropping eight of the nine weapons charges he faced after Logan Airport security in June found two loaded guns in his carry-on bag. After intercepting two passes as a rookie, Jones saw decreased playing time this season, getting on the field for 10 snaps in Sunday’s 10-6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Germany.Prostitution ring defendants will remain in custody after detention hearing pushed

A pair of Massachusetts residents at the center of a multi-state prostitution scandal that prosecutors say catered to high-powered politicians, doctors and lawyers, waived their rights to preliminary hearings on the charges against them and asked for bail hearings later this month.Han “Hana” Lee, 41, of Cambridge, and Junmyung Lee, 30, of Dedham, will remain in federal custody at least until their detention hearing, now scheduled for November 22, after they were charged by federal prosecutors with “conspiracy to coerce and entice to travel to engage in illegal sexual activity.”Neither defendant spoke much during Monday’s proceedings, only acknowledging to U.S. Magistrate Judge David Hennessy — in Han Lee’s case, through an interpreter — that they had been advised of their right to a preliminary hearing, that they wished to see the hearing waived, and that they would wait to discuss pre-trial detention. Both left the courtroom in handcuffs and in the custody of U.S. Marsh...Celtics’ Jaylen Brown loving growing connection with Kristaps Porzingis on and off court

Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis’ chemistry is growing not only on the court, but off the court as well. The Celtics stars live in the same building in Boston, and Brown has been able to get to know his new teammate pretty well this season.“It’s been a joy,” Brown said. “We live in the same building, so I’ve been able to spend some time riding back from the airport with him or whenever. KP is hilarious. He’s funnier than you probably all think, but he’s a good guy. …“Every time he sees you, he winks at you,” Brown elaborated with a smile. “(I’m like), ‘What are you winking at me for, man?’ But KP is a smooth guy.”Their connection seems to be translating to the court. Entering Monday’s game against the Knicks, Brown and Porzingis had played 241 minutes together, the third-most of any two-player combination on the Celtics. In those minutes, the duo had an offensive rating of 121.0 and a net rating of 19.3. Their prolific two-man game was on display in Saturday’s win over the R...Robbins: It’s tiki torch time on American campuses

Lexington, Mass. is a peaceful town, famous for being an ideal place to raise children. Young couples move there from everywhere so that their children can attend its public schools, which in disproportionate numbers send students to the finest universities in the land. Lexington has a robust library serving its hyper-educated residents, and its own symphony. It is a community of bake sales and charity drives and back-to-school nights.A walk into Lexington Center one recent morning revealed that heart-wrenching posters had been pasted onto a window of a vacant store. They said “Kidnapped,” and featured pictures of the Israeli babies, toddlers, children, elderly and disabled, including Holocaust survivors, who had been brutalized by Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7, and then shoved – maimed, raped, bleeding, terrified – onto the backs of trucks and abducted into Gaza. These were the “lucky” ones, who were not butchered to death, blown to pieces or burned to dust by 3,000 Hamas killers who ...Latest news
