Motorcyclist struck from behind, killed in Antioch collision

ANTIOCH — A motorcyclist stopped for a red light was fatally injured Thursday when police said he was hit from behind by a speeding vehicle.He was identified by the coroner’s office on Friday as William Marlik Jr., 63, of Bay Point.The fatal collision happened about 2:08 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Deer Valley Road and Prewett Ranch Drive.Authorities said Marlik was stopped at a red signal light when he was struck by a speeding vehicle, causing him to be ejected.Police did not say which street Marlik actually was on or what kind of vehicle hit him.He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.The force of the crash caused both the motorcycle and the other vehicle to collide with two other vehicles at the intersection, police said.Authorities said police officers were nearby on an unrelated matter and immediately rushed to the scene and began rendering first aid to all involved. (KRON) -- Five children and seven adult migrants were dropped off on the streets of downtown San Jose after they were detained in El Paso, Texas, county officials said.Aundraya Martinez, Santa Clara County's Office of Immigrant Relations manager, said the group of detained migrants was put on a bus in Texas and dropped off in San Jose Saturday night. They were left near First and Alma streets in the Guadalupe Washington neighborhood for three nights. The group was on the streets until Tuesday, when a concerned resident alerted the Washington Youth Center, Martinez said. Petroleum coke dust was released by the Martinez Refining Company at its refinery Friday morning but Contra Costa Health investigators have not found any visible impacts to the surrounding community. The county health department issued an alert at about 11:30 a.m. on social media about the release of the coke dust.The release has since stopped. The county's hazardous materials team responded and did not find any visible coke dust in the surrounding area. (KRON) -- A motorcyclist was killed after a multi-vehicle collision in Antioch Thursday afternoon, the Antioch Police Department said in a press release. The crash happened around 2:08 p.m. at the intersection of Deer Valley Road and Prewett Ranch Drive.The motorcyclist, a 63-year-old man from Bay Point, was struck by a vehicle that was speeding, which caused the motorcyclist to be ejected, according to police. That collision caused the two vehicles to crash into another two vehicles in the intersection -- a total of four vehicles involved in the crash. Medical crews and APD officers arrived on scene to provide aid to the individuals involved in the crash. The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital where he later died.
